Fire Service Volunteers Needed for Kids Camp

Charleston's ABC News 4 to air NFFF Documentary on Sixth Anniversary of Fire

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) has partnered with Comfort Zone Camp to provide the Hal Bruno Camp for Children of Fallen Firefighters. This is a bereavement camp for children of fallen firefighters who have been honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, MD. Campers will be between the ages of 7-17. The camp will be held at Camp Hanover in Mechanicsville, Virginia, on June 8-10, 2012.

The NFFF is looking for members of the fire service to volunteer as a “Big Buddy” to a camper. Volunteers are required to have a background check and to attend one day of training by Comfort Zone Camp staff. That training is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, at the BWI Four Points Sheraton hotel, which is adjacent to the BWI airport. The Foundation will provide lodging for April 27 and meals for April 28, and reimburse actual travel expenses up to $300 for those attending the training. The cost for the background check will also be paid by the NFFF. Volunteers are required to complete a Volunteer Application on the Comfort Zone Camp web site:

Please apply by April 10, 2012.
