Fire at Macy’s Store in NYC

A fire in the subbasement of Macy’s flagship store in New York City led to an evacuation of nearly 1,000 shoppers and staff Wednesday. Fire officials told the New York Daily News that the FDNY responded to the scene and had the fire out in roughly 30 minutes.

No injuries were reported, according to a New York Daily News report (http://nydn.us/HUVAiU). Macy’s has issued a statement describing the fire as “minor.” The building was ventilated due to smoke and the store was opened again.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
