Los Angeles Fire Stations Open Doors to Public

Fire stations across Los Angeles marked Fire Service Day by opening their doors to the public for tours, demonstrations and other family-friendly activities to increase awareness of services offered by the departments, reports the Contra Costa Times (http://bit.ly/JRJmZG).

In one of the demonstrations, firefighters used the Jaws of Life and other tools to demonstrate how to cut open a car to rescue victims. Paramedics also taught a basic form of CPR called “street CPR” that doesn’t require mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
