Firefighters searched for a mother and her young daughter after fire destroyed their home in Uxbridge, Massachusetts.
As of this morning, the case was still being deemed a search and not a recovery operation, according to a report on Boston.com (http://bo.st/TW4W36).
Firefighters from at least 14 area communities were called to help battle the four-alarm fire, which started about 11 p.m. last night. By midnight police had cordoned off a half-mile radius around the old farm house, which contained five living units.
Three residents of the house told reporters that a mother in her 40s and her daughter,, 6, were believed to be inside when flames broke out. The residents said they tried to break down the door on the first floor of the house when the fire pushed them back.
