Indiana Child Raises Money for Fire Victims

After hearing of those in need after a devastating house explosion, nine-year-old Cole H. started baking cookies to sell door-to-door in his neighborhood. Three days after the explosion, he had raised $508 by himself.

Gary Coons, from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, has since presented Cole with an award from the Mayor of Indianapolis, Greg Ballard.

Cole also received an award from the Indy Fire Rescue House. His donation and the thousands of dollars donated in the days after this disaster were used to support one of the displaced families. The funds will also be used to help fund shelter for fire victims for years to come.
