Abilene (KS) – Miranda Douglas was honored by the American Red Cross, North Central Kansas Chapter, for her actions during an October fire at Frontier Estates, an independent living and low-income apartment complex at 601 N. Buckeye.
Douglas said she used her skills of working in a nursing home to help the residents get to safety.

Douglas said she was visiting a friend at about 4 a.m. when she noticed a fire in a grill on a balcony of one of the upstairs apartments through the front window of the home. When she looked out again the fire had gotten bigger.
