NFPA 1917 Ambulance Standard Revision

Finally, an EMS Infection Control Reference

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1917, Standard for Automotive Ambulances, is open for public input until July 8, 2013. The somewhat controversial standard has yet to gain widespread adoption and is currently considering two tentative interim amendments (TIAs) proposed by the National Association of State EMS Officials (NASEMSO). The NFPA recently implemented an electronic system for submitting and processing public input. Both the TIAs and the 2013 version of NFPA 1917 are accessible at www.nfpa.org where comments can be directly submitted. The 1917 Committee will consider submissions as well as recently completed NHTSA testing of seat belts, seats, and stretcher mounts in revising the just released standard.
