Alaska Wildland Firefighters Must Take FEMA Course

Alaska wildland firefighters must take a special course required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency before they can get their red cards for the 2013 firefighting season, reports the Daily News-Miner.

Both permanent and emergency wildland firefighters are required to complete “An Introduction to the National Incident Management System” to obtain their 2013 red cards, which are required before a firefighter can be dispatched to a fire.

The three-hour course “introduces and overviews the National Incident Management System (NIMS),” according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency website.
