Narrow New Jersey Street Challenged Firefighters in Three-Alarmer

A three-alarm fire in Bayonne (NJ) that displaced a total of 17 residents from multiple buildings posed challenging to firefighters, reports NJ.com.

Trembley Court, a small side street off 16th Street in the Constable Hook section of Bayonne, is so small, firefighters were unable to navigate ladder trucks down the street, Rogers said.

“We just couldn’t get our trucks in because they couldn’t make the turn,” Fire Chief Gregory Rogers said. “(Without the ladders) it became a manpower intensive operation.”

One police unit and one fire unit stayed overnight to keep hotspots under control and to provide security on the buildings, Rogers said.

The city Building Department was called to the scene to assess the structures, Rogers said, adding that fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
