Fire Damages CA Apartments and Injures Firefighter

A two-alarm fire damaged a building in Alameda (CA) and a firefighter suffered a shoulder injury battling the fire, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

The fire burned several apartments on the upper two floors of the three-story building.

All 25 of the city’s on-duty firefighters responded to the fire and extinguished it within two hours, said Fire Captain Jim Colburn. The fire did not spread to a clothing store or a salon on the ground floor but caused smoke and water damage to the businesses.

Six residents were displaced and were assisted by the American Red Cross.

The fire began in a third-floor apartment, but the cause is under investigation. The fire caused at least $1 million in damage to the building and its contents, Colburn said.
