New York Woman Killed in Fire

A Fenton (NY) woman killed in a house fire has been identified, reports WBNG 12.

New York State Police say Barbara Cadwell, 71, died in the fire.

Firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed in flames. It took hours to fully extinguish the fire. Once crews had it under control, Cadwell’s remains were found inside.

Cadwell died from smoke inhalation, according to a state police news release that cited an autopsy performed this morning at Lourdes Hospital. The woman’s manner of death was ruled accidental. Investigators believe the fire started as a result of a wood stove.

The Broome County Fire Investigation Team, the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control and the Broome County Coroner’s Office are assisting in the investigation.
