Fort Wayne (IN) Firefighters Help Residents Escape Flood Waters

Firefighters in Fort Wayne (IN) went door to door to assist residents who were facing water that had risen to their doorsteps, reports The News-Sentinel.

Water had also eroded soil under a portion of Lake Avenue, leaving it suspended in midair. Authorities warned it was in danger of collapsing.

City employees from the City Utilities, sewer, street and flood control worked throughout the night to deal with the flooding from heavy rain, said City spokesman Frank Suarez.

Suarez said the water is expected to recede off many of the roads listed as closed early today. However, he recommended that residents clear debris away from the street storm drains in their neighborhoods to help the water recede before more expected rain Saturday.
