One firefighter was taken to a Denton (TX) hospital and several others were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion after they fought a barn fire near Krum, reports The Denton Record-Chronicle.
The firefighter sent to the hospital was listed in good condition as of Tuesday evening. No other injuries were reported.
Nearby residents said the flames reached several feet in the air, and they feared the flames would spread.
However, soon after the fire was reported, firefighters had the fire contained to the barn.
The cause of the fire was unknown as firefighters battled the fire in near 100-degree temperatures, fire officials said.
Denton County Fire Marshal Jody Gonzalez said fighting fires in the summer can be extremely dangerous for firefighters.
Several firefighters also required medical attention and were treated by medics, who hooked the firefighters up to IVs to replenish lost fluids.
