Nearly 200 New Haven (CT) residents of a senior and disabled housing community were displaced following a fire, reports The Courant.
Forty-seven apartments were damaged at the Bella Vista apartments, either by the fire or the water used to put it out, said a spokeswoman for city mayor John DeStefano, Jr.
A total of 171 apartments were left without electricity and were therefore unfit for the residents.
Crews responded to the building at 315 Eastern St. shortly after 4 a.m. Officials said the fire began from an electrical panel that was smoking.
The fire was brought under control around 6:14 a.m.
Three firefighters and five residents sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated.
Two of the firefighters sustained burns from the extreme heat of the fire, while a third was blown back by a small electrical explosion.
