Firefighter Hurt By Explosion Inside Burning San Jose (CA) Home

A firefighter suffered minor burns in an explosion at a house fire in San Jose, reports CBS SF Bay Area (http://cbsloc.al/19Gzam7).

Fire dispatchers received a report of a structure fire in the 700 block of South Almaden Avenue near West Virginia Street at 9:10 p.m., fire Capt. Rob Brown said.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters saw heavy fire coming from the basement of an older-style Victorian home, Brown said.

Shortly after arriving at the residence, an explosion in the basement caused a firefighter to become briefly engulfed in flames and suffer minor burns, according to Brown.

The fire was knocked down at 9:43 p.m. without further incident.

Brown said that investigators are considering the fire suspicious because the house was vacant and under renovation at the time of the fire and various squatters were reportedly occupying the home.
