Minneapolis (MN) – The second National Basketball Association (NBA) regular season game to be played in Mexico City, Mexico, was over before it began. A generator fire led to an evacuation of players and fans 45 minutes before tip-off.

Dave Benz, play-by-play voice of the Minnesota Timberwolves, posted videos on Instagram and Twitter showing smoke on the arena floor and players boarding their buses.

NBA spokeswoman Sharon Lima confirmed the smoke came from the generator, which was outside the arena.

The teams were warming up for the game when the lights went out in part of the arena and smoke began pouring out of vents in the upper deck.

The game was set to start at 8:30 p.m. CT, but Fox Sports North’s Marnie Gellner heard it was “highly unlikely” the game would be played.
