Vegetation Fire Grows in Napa County (CA)

Cal Fire sent crews to battle a growing vegetation fire in the Pope Valley area of Napa County on Tuesday afternoon, which forced the evacuation of some residents, reports NBC Bay Area.

Cal Fire said the fire was reported at 12:08 p.m. in the 7800 block of Butts Canyon Road and at the time, 30 acres had burned. By about 2 p.m., the fire had grown to 300 acres. A spokesman said that some structures had been lost already, but it wasn’t immediately clear if they were homes or outbuildings.

There are only about a dozen homes in this area, officials said.

Butts Canyon Road is closed between Snell Valley and Aetna Springs roads. The Napa County Sheriff said that mandatory evacuations were ordered for homes from the west side of the 7800 block of Butts Canyon Road to north of Snell Valley Road. And the evacuation point is Pope Valley School.

The Lake and Napa County fire departments, the California Highway Patrol and the Napa County Sheriff’s Office have also responded to the fire.
