Public Memorial Set for Fallen Houston Firefighter

A public memorial service has been schedule for Daniel Groover, the 46-year-old verteran Houston Fire Department firefighter who died Wednesday when he apparently collapsed in a house fire in Kingwood, reports The Houston Chronicle.

A public procession will begin 9 a.m. Saturday at College Park High School, 3701 College Park Dr. and end at the Woodlands Church, Fellowship of the Woodlands Campus, 1 Fellowship Drive. A memorial service will follow at 10 a.m.

The fire department is helping to plan a private funeral for family members, while Local 351 is working on the memorial, which will be open to the public, said Rick Gomez, spokesman for Local 341 of the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association Union.

The 100 Club has announced that it is providing assistance to Groover’s family. He is survived by his wife and three adult children.

The 61-year-old Houston-based nonprofit organization supports the dependents of firefighters and law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

To help with immediate financial needs, The 100 Club will give the family a check. Additional support will be made after an assessment of the family’s financial needs, the club said Thursday in a news release.
