Idaho Firefighters Escape Wildfire; Apparatus Destroyed

Firefighters in Idaho had a near miss when a wildfire overran a Richfield Fire Department apparatus.

A report on magicvalley.com (http://bit.ly/1yxkS1Y) said firefighters were responding Wednesday to a 27-acre fire when the engine became stuck. Flames burned the rig, but no firefighters were injured.

Fire Chief Mike Swainston said he had not contacted the department’s insurance company, but the truck was worth a little less than $300,000.

Bureau of Land Management and Richfield firefighters were mopping up the wildland fire and were expected to have it controlled late Wednesday night.
