Nashville Firefighters Placed on Leave After Patient Mistakenly Declared Dead

Six Nashville (TN) firefighters were placed on administrative leave after a medical call Wednesday morning in which a gunshot victim was  mistakenly pronounced dead.

News Channel 5 reported (http://bit.ly/1oRvsya) that firefighters left the scene after the 3 a.m. call, but it turned out the man was still alive.

The 30-year-old man had reportedly shot himself in the head. Firefighters left at 3:48 a.m., and police had to call for another ambulance for the still-breathing victim about two hours after the original call.

“I’m very disturbed. If someone has signs of life, it’s not up to us decide if they go or not,” Nashville Fire Chief Rick White said in the report.
