Boy Dies After Fort Worth (TX) Fire

A child was pronounced dead and three others treated after a fire broke out at a home Thursday afternoon in the 6600 block of Rockdale Road in Fort Worth, reports wfaa.com.

“It’s kind of the worst case scenario for this job we do,” said Lt. Randy Townley, with the Fort Worth Fire Department. “It’s kind of the last thing we want to hear is we lost a child.”

MedStar reported four children ages 2, 5, 9 and 14 were inside the home when the fire broke out.

While three relatives were able to escape, neighbors frantically tried to rescue the 9-year-old boy who didn’t emerge from the home.

Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, thick smoke and heat proved to be obstacles as firefighters struggled to extinguish the fire in 93-degree weather. Crews at the scene poured water onto firefighters as they exited the home.
