There is a lot of smoke coming out of the Jemez Mountains, but officials say it’s all part of the plan. Firefighters are managing the Pino Fire burning just outside of Jemez Springs, reports krqe.com.
The lightning caused Pino Fire started August 13th and has slowly burned 152 acres.
Firefighters said they are planning to let the burn in a controlled manner. Crews are anticipating a very active day both Tuesday and Wednesday.
Officials say the fire is being managed for resource benefits including fuel reduction, nutrient recycling, forest insect and disease regulation and watershed protection for Ponderosa and other communities.
