Two Dead in Five-Alarm Dallas Fire

UPDATE: CBSDFW.com reports that two people were killed in today’s fire. More than 150 firefighters responded to the incident.

ORIGINAL STORY: Firefighters battled a five-alarm fire that ripped through a senior living apartment complex early Wednesday morning in Dallas, Texas.

CBSDFW.com reported that at least one person died. The fire forced firefighters to conduct evacuations while also trying to battle the flames.

Firefighters were called to the Gatewood Apartments at around 2:15 a.m. The report said crews encountered heavy flames and smoke showing at the scene.

Dallas Fire-Rescue said that multiple residents were calling dispatchers asking to be rescued. Many of them had trouble walking, or were bound to wheelchairs or walkers, and could not easily escape the building on their own

More than 150 firefighters responded to the fire, according to the report.

Three other residents suffered reported nonlife-threatening injuries and were transported.
