Detroit Fire Crews Battle Commercial Fire

On Thursday, January 1 2015, Detroit 5th Battalion companies were dispatched to a reported commercial building on fire.

While en route, Squad 4 reported smoke showing. Squad 4 arrived on the scene to find fire in a vacant, one-story 80 x 200 commercial store fronts.

Engine 42 arrived and stretched on the building. Two extra engine were requested. Crews preformed an interior attack on the building. After making little progress, Chief 5 requested a platform to the scene.

Ladder 22 and Ladder 7 were positioned for water tower operations. Chief 5 then requested a second alarm for the fire extending across the roof of the row of stores.

Defensive operations were then ordered. Defensive operations were conducted for about hours to bring this fire under control with extra companies ordered for relief.

This was the department’s first multiple alarm fire for 2015.
