Saginaw (MI) Firefighters Rescue Two from Burning Roof

The first firefighter to arrive at a burning house in Saginaw discovered two people on the roof over the front porch, yelling for help, reports mlive.com (http://bit.ly/1titdrO)

Leaning a ladder from the roof to the ground provided the two occupants a safe escape shortly after the 8:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at a home on Owen near East Holland, Saginaw Fire Chief Chris Van Loo said.

“There were two ladies on the roof where the ladder is at,” said witness Franklin Parker, 47, who lives across the street.

“They were screaming for help. They put the ladder up, and they got them down.”

A large plume of smoke was visible for blocks. The rear part of the home appeared to be the most significantly damaged.

Firefighters were fighting the blaze from inside and outside the home as smoke poured from third-story windows. Fire officials are investigating the cause.

One man who was at the house was taken to the hospital, Van Loo said.
