A local mother is dead and her husband was injured after a Rockton house fire, reports wifr.com.
Crews remain on the scene on Yale Bridge Road, near Williams Tree Farm in Rockton. Heavy winds have been a factor.
Fire crews plan to continue working over the next few hours to completely put out a fire that is believed to have started inside the home’s garage.
Nearly 60 firefighters from 12 area departments are working together to figure out what started a fire that took the life of a 58-year-old Rockton woman. The victim’s husband remains in the hospital after he was burned and surrounded by heavy smoke.
“My understanding is that she’s actually the one that called the fire in, so she went back into the building and me and the fire service tell people, when they have a situation of this origin, that we ask them to get and stay out,” said Chief Kirk Wilson with the Rockton Fire Protection District.
Specht was found dead inside the garage where the fire is thought to have started around 7:00 Thursday morning. Crews say while the three story home is destroyed, with more than $700,000 in damages, the true loss is a life.
