A fire in Jacksonville that started in a two-story house in Springfield and spread to a wooden structure next door was contained by firefighters without any reported injuries, reports jacksonville.com (http://bit.ly/1y9ilcH)
The fire started in an abandoned house in the 200 block of East Third Street about 5 p.m., Senterfitt said.
Crews initially tried to fight the fire from inside the home but the men were pulled because parts of the floor were rotten and the home was not occupied.
Part of the roof collapsed in the back of the house as the crew was getting out, Senterfitt said.
The fire then started to spread to an unoccupied building and the crews were able to contain the fire to the first building.
There were originally 25 firefighters dispatched to the scene, but about 50 ended up fighting the blaze, Senterfitt said.
