The Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) is excited to announce a new educational partnership with Columbia Southern University. Through the new partnership, individuals attending select seminars at the 2015 National Fire and Emergency Services Symposium will be able to earn Continuing Education Units through Columbia Southern University.

The partnership with Columbia Southern University will allow us to enhance the seminar program, providing even more value to the attendees.”

The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized unit of measurement for participation in continuing education programs. Participants who successfully complete Columbia Southern University’s approved programs, such as the CFSI seminars, will be awarded CEUs. Among the seminars being conducted during the 2015 National Fire and Emergency Services Symposium that have been approved for 0.1 CEUs are:
- An Introduction to Grassroots Advocacy in the Fire Service
- Partnership Building Before the Disaster: A New Jersey Volunteer Fire Department Tackles Local Risks with Help from Federal Tools
- Firefighter Health and Safety Research: New Frontiers and Future Directions
- National Safety Culture Change Initiative (NSCCI)
- Traffic Incident Management and Firefighter Safety
- Community Risk Reduction: A National Priority
- Emergency Response to Rail Tank Car Incidents
- Fire Service-Based EMS: Challenges and Opportunities in Integrated Community Health Care
Prior to each seminar, attendees will be asked to sign in as proof of attendance. At the conclusion of the Symposium, an email will be sent to each attendee with an attachedParticipant Information for Granting CEUs form. Attendees will be required to complete this form and email it back to the Columbia Southern University’s Department of Continuing Education. Once this form has been received and submitted for approval, a certificate will be emailed to the participant in a PDF format.
The 2015 National Fire and Emergency Services Symposium/27th Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner takes place on April 15-16, 2015 in Washington, DC. Fire and emergency services leaders from across the country will attend this important program as they engage in discussions with federal leaders on a broad range of issues impacting our nation’s first responders. Hosted by the Congressional Fire Services Institute, the Symposium and Dinner program is a unique experience for fire service officials. Their presence on Capitol Hill during this two-day program captures the attention of every member of Congress, reminding them of the federal government’s role in addressing the needs of our firefighters and emergency services personnel.
