The EMS Compass Initiative, a project of the National Association of State EMS Officials (NASEMSO) funded by NHTSA, has been working to develop EMS performance measures and needs your help. In a press release issued May 1st, NASEMSO announced opening of a web site to accept recommendations for performance measures at www.emscompass.org. The call for measures will remain open until May 31st. The EMS Compass initiative will vet the measures submitted through a series of public webinars and submit their findings to the National Quality Forum (NQF), an organization intimately involved in redesigning health care (including ambulance) payment systems from service based to outcomes based payments tied directly to performance measures. EMS Chiefs and Officers are strongly encouraged to actively participate in this project that will directly determine the future of EMS billing and reimbursement.
