DeTect, Inc. (www.detect-inc.com) announced that its RAPTOR XBS-BL Radar Wind Profiler is now part of San Diego Gas & Electric’s (SDG&E) “early warning system,” helping the utility’s meteorologists determine if Santa Ana winds and associated wildland fire risk are in the forecast.
The two new mobile boundary layer wind profilers will update wind conditions every six minutes helping the utility predict where wind driven wildfire danger is greatest. “RAPTOR’s mobility means it can be set up quickly and easily wherever it is needed” said Scott McLaughlin, the company’s Vice President of its Meteorological Systems Group. “It can be moved from location to location as the wildfire moves providing critical information to the utility and firefighters.” The advanced wind profiler developed and manufactured by DeTect can be also be used to predict the track of chemical or toxic clouds, air pollution, and volcanic ash clouds.
