Within minutes of a full call out for a kitchen fire, firefighters at station 2 in downtown High Point had called police to make sure the garage door had properly shut behind them.
About three weeks ago, firefighters returned from a call to find cell phones and I Pads stolen from inside their station.
“We trust people — we don’t think someone is just waiting outside for us to leave to go inside,” said Battalion Chief Michael Foster with the High Point Fire Department.
Foster said emergency equipment like radios, hoses and tools have been targeted in the past but that thefts are unusual.
