A Hillsboro police officer helped rescue 11 men from a recovery home after noticing the building was on fire during an early morning patrol Tuesday, reports kgw.com
It happened at Fresh Start Recovery Housing, a clean and sober housing facility near the corner of Northwest Evergreen Road and Northeast Sunburst Avenue.
Hillsboro firefighters said the fire started about 3:15 a.m. Tuesday. It was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.
The police officer called 911 and began helping the men evacuated the home, firefighters said.
No one was hurt.
The fire started in the back of the home and spread to the attic. The police officer helped the men and one dog escape the flames. They stayed on a TriMet bus until the Red Cross arrived.
