Ocala Fire Rescue Receives Public Education Training Tool from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Grant

Ocala Fire Rescue has been awarded an Intelligent Training System from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to expand the department’s existing fire extinguisher training program.

The live fire Intelligent Training System, valued at $10,220 dollars, is equipped with a base unit, three adapter props to simulate class A, B, and C fires, four smart refillable water extinguishers, and a handheld controller which will allow the instructor to manage the intensity and volume of the flames remotely.

“Having a controlled system with flames that can be adjusted from afar, and multiple attachments to simulate a trash can, stove top, or vehicle engine fire allows the OFR training officials to train students in a more realistic, yet safe scenario,” explained Assistant Chief Ortiz. “This equipment will facilitate the training of civilians in fire extinguisher use, widen the age range for which the classes are suitable, and increase the number of individuals trained.”
