Paul Conway Fire recognizes that the job is forever in a state of change and that individuals in the field have a duty to continue to train and to be the best firefighters they can be. With an emphasis that proper training is life, they are proud to present the “Heavy Rescue” Hands-On Training Course.
Join lead instructors, retired Captain Robert Morris and current Captain Rex Morris, Jr., of FDNY’s Rescue Company 1, along with other current members of Rescue 1, as they cover the hazards and challenges of working motor vehicle accidents involving heavy vehicles (“big rigs”). Learn the proper techniques on how to stabilize and lift heavy vehicles using struts, hydraulic jacks and air bags, in a hands-on environment. Additionally, you will get to utilize tools such as: heavy hydraulic winches, grip hoists, slings, heavy chain and various other rigging equipment to roll, lift and stabilize heavy vehicles. You will also gain a clear understanding of how to estimate vehicle weights and identify lifting points.
