FDNY Firefighter Rescues Toddler from Brooklyn Apartment Fire

A city firefighter carried a 9-month-old boy to safety Wednesday, delivering the baby from a raging Brooklyn fire, reports nydailynews.com.

Ryan Wischerth, of Engine 283, brought infant Gerard DeBollet, dressed in a maroon T-shirt with white stripes and swaddled in a baby blue towel, to safety after firefighters descended on a fire in a three-story building on Church Ave. and E. 48 St. in East Flatbush at 3:30 p.m., according to the FDNY.

The baby was conscious when he was taken from the second floor of the smoking building. Kings County Hospital listed the curly-topped babe in serious but stable condition because of his young age, according to the FDNY.

Four other adults suffered minor injuries and were taken to the same hospital. Their possible relationship to little Gerard was not immediately clear.
