Detroit Fire Commissioner Edsel Jenkins was reportedly forced out of his post just week’s before the city’s annual night of pre-Halloween mayhem and arson, Devil’s Night.
According to motorcitymuckraker.com, Jenkins, a 30-year veteran of the department, met briefly with Mayor Mike Duggan’s administration this afternoon and returned to fire headquarters to notify his staff that he is retiring under pressure.

The report said Jenkins’ departure is expected to be part of a larger shakeup at the top of the beleaguered fire department. The move comes in the wake of reports of problems with the department, such as firefighters‘ working with malfunctioning equipment, fire station health hazards, and more.
