Longtime New Jersey Fire Police Officer Collapses, Dies

A long-serving fire police officer in South Amboy, New Jersey, passed away on October 14 after collapsing at an incident scene.

The U.S. Fire Administration reported that South Amboy Fire Department Fire Police Officer Gerald “Bear” Celecki, 70, collapsed while directing traffic at an emergency incident. Celecki, who was also chief of the Middlesex County Fire Police, was treated on-scene by fellow responders and transported to the hospital but succumbed to a nature and cause of fatal injury still to be determined.

He had more than 50 years of service.

In addition to Celecki, there were two other medical fatalities reported this week in the U.S. fire service, one in Memphis, Tennessee, and another in Ohio. In addition, two Kansas City (MO) firefighters were killed during operations.
