Two South Amherst (OH) Firefighters Held Hostage

A hostage situation has been resolved about 9:15 p.m. with no injuries, reports chronicle.northcoastnow.com (http://bit.ly/1kt7qKE)

Earlier Wednesday night, two South Amherst firefighters were reported being held hostage by a man with a rifle in a field near Hornyak Street.

Members of the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, Amherst police and SWAT team members responded and negotiated with the man.

“They all have families, we want them to get there safe,” the negotiator told the man, identified in police radio traffic as Roy Griffith Jr. “We’re not going to hurt you, we want a peaceful solution.”

The man requested police bring him a beer and medications.

“Don’t try no bull—-, I’ve got a lot of mental problems,” the man said.

The firefighters had been responding to a brush fire when the incident occurred.

It marked yet another recent instance of violence against firefighters and medics. Earlier this week, two Detroit medics were stabbed while responding to an emergency call.
