Michigan Firefighter Trainee Dies After Falling Ill During Training

A Michigan firefighter recruit has died after falling ill during training over the weekend.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), Spring Arbor Township Fire Department Firefighter Trainee Charles C. Adams, Jr. , 47, was participating in search and rescue training at the local fire academy.

Adams became ill and momentarily lost consciousness. Displaying heart attack-like symptoms, he was transported by ambulance to the hospital. Firefighter Trainee Adams passed away at the hospital later that evening from a cause yet to be determined.

Adams was the first firefighter fatality reported to the USFA in 2016.
