Fire Life

Celebrating the Chinese New Year The Yoga Way

By Claire Diab and Dennis Boyle

The Chinese New Year of the Fire Monkey began on February 8, 2016. The Monkey is known for being intelligent, witty, and inventive. Problem solvers that work well in their group and also independent achievers. The playful nature of the Monkey means anything can happen this year!  Things will get accomplished with the exuberant motivation and inventive solutions provided by the Monkey’s nature.

Prepare for a lively, optimistic, and progressive year!

According to tradition, this is a great time to clean out your home and office, to prepare yourself and your space for new energy in the New Year!  The Year of the Monkey is also great for setting personal goals – it is best to look for ways to move forward on your own rather than setting to achieve a large group effort. The Monkey is intuitive and an individual. You can commit to taking it day-by-day, following your inner wisdom and intuition, and adapting to the sometimes unpredictable nature of the Monkey. You can embrace this change through a meditation practice.

Depending on your Chinese Zodiac Animals, there may be specific ways that you can prepare for this New Year… Do you know your Chinese Zodiac Animal?

Chinese Zodiac Animals

The Chinese believe The Animal ruling one’s birth year has a profound influence on personality and destiny. Each animal has its own beautiful, powerful, and unique characteristics. The animal signs are Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig, Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, and Snake.
