A vehicle crashed into the side of a tavern in Colonie, New York, sparking a fire and leaving one person with severe burns. Sidewinder Photographer had photos and video from the scene of the recent incident.
Midway firefighters responded to a car-versus-building call with a report of the car was on fire at Blessings Tavern. The first arriving police unit called out with the building fully involved. The first-arriving chief immediately called for the signal 30 and the second alarm and stated he had a burn victim on scene.
The back of the building was heavily involved with a truck pushed through the mid-level of the building. The first-arriving engine pulled multiple handlines and went to work knocking down the heavily involved building. Firefighters from the Colonie duty crew engine made a push in to the building to knock down the heavy fire in the building and conduct a search of the building, as there were multiple reports of people trapped inside.
Firefighters were able to quickly bring the heavy fire inside the roof and rear of the building under control. Firefighters conducted heavy overhaul on scene during the operations for most of the night.
The cook inside the building was injured and taken to the hospital as for the driver of the vehicle he was taken to Albany Medical Center. No firefighters were injured on scene. The tavern sustained heavy fire and structural damage. The burn victim, a 16-year old male, is currently is at Westchester burn center with third-degree burns on more than 95 percent of his body and is in a sedated coma.
