Recent FDNY Graduate Nearly Died as Volunteer Firefighter

As a 19-year-old volunteer firefighter in New Hyde Park in 2011, James Devane was trapped in a basement fire, reports WCBS 880.

His family was told he might not make it or that he would end up brain dead.

Now 27 and the valedictorian of his FDNY graduate class, he never gave up on his dream to be a FDNY firefighter
