CA Fire Captain Killed in Collision

Firefighter fatality

A CAL Fire firefighter was killed last week after the vehicle he was traveling in was struck by another, according to a report from the U.S. Fire Administration.

On Wednesday, October 2, 2019, Captain Paul Rotondaro, 36, was on duty when he left the Merced County fire station to go to the Usona fire station.  Driving a Ford Ranger, Rotondaro was hit by another truck, causing his truck to leave the road and catch fire, killing him instantly.

Captain Rotondaro had 13 years of service.

“He loved the community like his own, he treated everybody equally,” Gustine Fire Chief Pat Borrelli said of Captain Rotondaro during a vigil held to commemorate his life (abc30.com).
