Indianapolis firefighters responded last evening to a fire in an abandoned dwelling with reported entrapment.
Sixteen Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) units were dispatched, and crews encountered heavy fire at the scene. There were reports of an occupant inside the “vacant” structure, but crews’ primary and secondary searches were negative, with the entrapment proving to be unfounded.
Damage is estimated at $80,000. The building had been boarded up since 2003, but neighbors reported squatters in the structure on occasion.
