Situated within Passaic County, the city has a population of 69,781 people occupying 3.2 square miles. Passaic is the 10th most densely populated municipality in the United States, with a population of more than 22,000 people per square mile. The Passaic Fire Department (PFD) operates four engine companies, two ladder companies, an Urban Area Securities Initiative foam tender, a quick-attack response vehicle, a utility pickup, a hazardous materials decon trailer, a fireground rehab unit, a reserve engine and ladder, and two rescue boats.
