The woman killed Sunday in a massive blaze that spread through five residential buildings in Paterson leaving 40 people homeless has been identified by authorities.
Felicia Hernandez De La Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene of the five-alarm fire. Her body was found nearly nine hours after the 1:44 a.m. fire broke out as officials were searching for a resident believed to be missing.
The fire started in a two-story building on the 400 block of Summer Street and spread to four others residential buildings on that block as well as another building on Chestnut Street. A total of 40 residents were forced from their homes, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Two Paterson firefighters were treated at a local hospital for minor injuries they suffered while battling the blaze.
