Rick Haase

Rick Haase is the fire chief of the Staunton (IL) Fire Protection District and owner/operator of Haase Consulting and Training, which specializes in emergency response and safety consulting and training for industry/businesses and municipalities. He is also a hazmat duty officer for the MABAS 35 Hazmat Team and fulfills several other functions in area mutual-aid teams. Previously, he served as fire chief at the WRB Refining – Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery in Roxana, Illinois. He has served as both the chairman and vice chairman of the Industrial Fire and Safety Section of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and is currently an active member of the section. He has also served as a field staff instructor for the Illinois Fire Service Institute for more than 25 years. Rick is currently active in the volunteer sector serving as the Chief of the Staunton Fire Protection District in Staunton, IL for the last 28 years. Rick has been a member of the Staunton Fire Protection District for the last 41 years and has also served as training officer and assistant chief. The Staunton Fire Protection District is a volunteer department with 35 active volunteers which covers 32 square miles in southern Macoupin County and northern Madison County.

Any hazmat incident will require the response of personnel trained in hazardous materials response. Well-trained hazmat responders can provide a number of resources to effectively manage hazardous materials incidents, but they cannot provide all necessary resources for every incident. Any organization that provides hazmat response must have access to a well-defined support network to ensure success for all types of hazmat responses.
