Neil McMillan serves as the IAFF's Principal Representative on NFPA's Technical Committee for Structural and Proximity Firefighting Protective Clothing and Equipment, as well he represents the Standards Council of Canada on behalf of the IAFF on the International Standards Organization’s Mirror Committee specific to fire fighter protective clothing. Neil’s experience serving as the IAFF Director of Science & Research within the Health, Safety & Medicine Division involved collaborations with institutions and researchers across North America, and abroad. These collaborations aim to better understand and reduce occupational injuries/illness relating to fire fighting, as well as to investigate immerging materials, services and products representing the latest innovation in fire fighter safety and health. Neil provides education to fire fighters, the public, and elected officials on the topic of fire fighter health and associated risks. Neil has extensive experience utilizing medical and scientific research to fight for the recognition of occupational illnesses and injuries suffered by fire fighters as individuals, as well as legislatively at the state, provincial and federal levels to better protect all fire fighters.
