Fire Destroys Mt. Eden (KY) Volunteer Firehouse

A fire destroyed the Mount Eden Volunteer Fire Department’s main firehouse and $1 million worth of gear. It took engine trucks and tanker trucks from six area fire departments to put the flames out. Those who were first on the scene say fire had consumed the entire building by the time they got there. Some of the destroyed equipment includes an engine truck, a tanker and two smaller vehicles.

“We’ve already talked to other departments, neighboring departments, and instead of being mutual aid they’re all going to be on automatic aid, automatic dispatch. That way there’s no waiting to dispatch them, they’re just going to be automatic,” said Lt. John Butler Jr. with the Mt. Eden Volunteer Fire Department.

Mount Eden VFD officials say it’s too early to know the fire’s cause. The Mount Eden Volunteer Fire Department had just celebrated their 50th year in service.
