April 11. WASHINGTON, D.C.- Five firefighters and two civilians were injured in a collision involving a D. C. fire truck. The pumper was en route to a fire on East Capitol Street. It collided with another vehicle and struck a tree before it came to a stop. Three firefighters were taken to the Washington Hospital Center emergency room. According to a Station WJLA report, two other firefighters were later admitted to the hospital’s MedStar Unit. One of the firefighters is reported to have suffered serious injuries. The others were being observed. The two civilians evaluated at Howard University Hospital.
